I disputed an item (old cell phone bill) with ONE of the credit reporting agencies and it got deleted. I pulled my report from the other two bureaus and it mysteriously vanished from them also. I’m kind of confused on why, I mean don’t get me wrong I’m happy, but not clear on why this happened since I only disputed it with one agency. Any insight? Thanks in advance!
Chances are the cell phone company pulled it from all reporting agencies. Some one answered saying they work together, with all due respect, that’s just not correct. The credit bureaus are independent of each other, they are separate companies and competitors. The way they receive information is not from sharing it, it is from creditors reporting it to them. That’s why you may see some accounts in some reports, but not always all of them. Some creditors do report to all the major bureaus, but that’s the only way all of them get your info. If they all shared all the same information together, why do you need more then 1 credit bureau? All the info would be the same with all the credit reporting agencies.
Do you know for sure the negative account was being reported from all the reporting agencies? If it was, the creditor removed the account from all reporting agencies. They don’t always do this, and sometimes make you dispute it from each of the bureaus. Some will just go ahead and delete them all right away.
By law, creditors, lenders, and/or collection agencies have the absolute right to report information, not report it, delete it, update it, and so on. The credit bureaus will not delete an account unless the source reporting it tells them to, or they do not respond back to a disputed account in a "reasonable" time. When you dispute info with the credit bureaus, all they do is request for verification. If the source reporting it cannot verify the account, it will be deleted
Hope this helps & best of luck!
