what if i have filed a dispute with a credit report agency and has been the 30-45 days but nothing’s changed

I have filed a dispute with experian and it stated that if the creditor did not reply to the dispute within 30-45 days then they would send me an email letting me know if it was accepted or declined and it would be either updated or removed from my report…but nothing has changed and i have not recieved an email …what should i do?

The creditor has 30 days to provide proof of the debt. It usually takes the 7 days to mail the request to the creditor, 30 days for the response, and another 7-10 days for you to get your letter. So basically, you should get a letter any day now with the resolution. I know it is driving you crazy, but just be patient.

Also…Check your mail. Every time I have disputed something, they have sent me a letter in the mail instead of an email.

Need to dispute items on credit report, but do not know how to word it or go about doing it?

To be successful, I’d like to not leave anything out when I communicate with them? Anyone know of any forms I can use to dispute debts with creditors?

Or forms to settle the debt for less?

contact the company and negotiate!!! they have the appropriate forms for you to fill out. If you have late fees or other fees i am sure they will work something out, just say you can’t afford paying so much… they can also put you on a payment plan!

How can I dispute rental history on my credit report that’s not mine?

June 15, 2010 - 8:45 pm 4 Comments

In 2004 a copy of my Driver’s License, Social Security card and Birth certificate were stolen from the outgoing mailbox at my apartment complex and so I put a fraud alert on my credit reports.

3 years later (now), I recieved a copy of my credit report and it has an apartment listed in my name that I’ve never rented before. I contacted the collection agency to dispute this. I told them that I’ve been at my current address for over 4 years and have rental documents to prove it. He said that being able to prove where I’ve lived over the past 4 years doesn’t mean anything because people have many different addresses.

I’ve disputed this with all 3 credit bureaus as well. My question is how can I prove that I did not lease this apartment. The rental contract that was mailed to me has ALL of my information regarding my employement, emergency contact info and current address on it. The signature even looks exactly like mine but I know it’s not.
I have check stubs for the last 4 years with my address on it as well as bank statements with cleared checks for my rent for 4 years, tax return for 4 years, cable/ telephone bill. I can prove that I’ve never had a utility bill at the apartment they have claimed I’ve rented.

From looking at the rental agreement it seems as if someone who really know me did this because they have info. that only I or someone who really know me, would know. I have had many friends and family living with me over these 4 years whom I’ve had to put out but I have no contact with these people anymore and can’t say for sure that one of them would have done this. I want to take this to court but don’t for sure that I can win this becuase they do have a rental agreement with all my info. and a FAKE signature that looks like the real thing.

What can I do to prove that although the rental contract does have my info. on it, I did not give it to them nor sign the contract and to remove from credit report
I have no gas/electric bill in my name. It’s in my boyfreinds name because we live together and some things are in his name and some in mine.

Show them your driver’s license and your social security card to the credit bureaus, typically it’s a mixed file so they will remove it if you can prove it’s not yours. Also, do you have a police report to reflect the stolen items, that will help a LOT.

dispute credit report or not?

June 15, 2010 - 7:37 pm 4 Comments

Hi, I need some wise advice. Recently I applied for a car loan, without checking my credit report first. It was denied due to invalid social security number. Now I have checked the credit report, indeed it has a SSN variation which is very close to what I have. Also there are variation of my name. After some research it is traced to a credit card which I have canceled. The issue is that there is a card which had the name typo which also associated with the SSN variation, which I have used before. I didn’t make a correction while the card is still active and didn’t bother to check my credit until now. Is it still good to dispute and have the lender correct the information? Other than that my credit is near perfect. Wise responses are appreciated.

You shouldn’t have been denied for a incorrect ssn on your credit report. Lots of people have name and ssn variations on their reports and it doesn’t matter.

You can dispute it if you want but perhaps you were denied for some other reason.
